African Yacht Liveaboards

yacht liveaboards

Live aboard (noun or verb) refers to living aboard a boat for some period of time, either as a residence or as part of a multi-day diving trip.

A liveaboard can be:-

  • A person who makes a boat, typically a small yacht in a marina, their primary residence. Powerboats and cruising sailboats are commonly used for living aboard, as well as houseboats which are designed primarily as a residence.
  • A boat designed for people to live aboard it. Many tourist diving boats are liveaboards.

The liveaboard lifestyle has many attractions and many downsides. Most boats are much smaller than nearly all shoreside residences, they are more exposed to bad weather, and require special maintenance skills. However, they are mobile, provide inexpensive water access, and allow for integrated recreational, transportation, and housing costs.

In the recreational Scuba diving industry, a live aboard service offers its guests to stay on board for one or more nights, unlike a day boat operation. This allows time to travel to more distant divesites. Normally a live aboard operation charters for ten to thirty passengers.

Yacht Liveaboards in Africa

For those looking for adventure, and for those who have sailed the more conventional yacht charter destinations, we are offering the opportunity to discover something new in the world of liveaboards.

Africa and her Indian Ocean coastline and islands remain the most undiscovered, untouched and undived destinations in the world. Africa is usually seen as a safari destination, but one of Africa's best kept secrets has been the Indian Ocean coastline and islands of Africa.

There is no more romantic or adventurous experience than combining an African safari with the exploration of coral reefs and tropical islands - and nothing is more exciting than doing it aboard a luxury yacht. A liveaboard in Africa is a unique experience!

The Beauty of Liveaboards

The beauty of staying onboard a yacht is the ability to be able to reach places that others cannot. From a yacht you are able to visit a great many more sites and dive or fish many more times than would be possible from a shore-based resort. A yacht is generally able to moor close to dive sites, delivering you and your gear right to the heart of the action. There's no ferrying back and forth - a liveaboard offers you a real 'flop over the side and swim with the dolphins' kind of convenience.

A combination of activities

Unlike many liveaboards in the rest of the world, our clients are not just confined to the boat. We offer a unique combination of diving, fishing, cruising, sailing, island hopping, exploration and cultural interaction and discovery. The dedicated diver or fisherman can dive and fish to the full, but there will also always be the opportunity and time to enjoy a whole host of other sports, like jetskiing, water-skiing and sea kayaking.

All about yachts

Cruisers are by the far the most common in private usage, making up most of the 7 m to 14 m (23 to 46 ft) range. These vessels can be quite complex in design, as designers try to find a balance between docile handling qualities, interior space, good light-wind performance and on-board comfort.
